The Land

A perfect place

for trout to thrive

The Rjukan valley in Telemark is surrounded by nature
and protected by mountains. This is the valley of shadows,
where the high mountains hide the sun for up to five
months every year, and where a low mist creates a
protected environment with its cold embrace.

Focus areas

This is a land known as Norway in a miniature.

With its landscape of misty woodlands, high waterfalls, lakes of crystal-clear water, and fast-flowing rivers that tumble down from high mountains – it is the perfect place for premium trout to thrive.

But this beautiful unspoiled environment is also one of the most popular recreational areas in Norway – famous for its untouched nature, its culture, its history and its people. Where both locals and visitors have long enjoyed the Norwegian outdoor life, summer and winter.

There must be something in the water

Rjukan has a long history of innovation and industry, creativity and endurance.
From wartime resistance fighters remembered in the film “The Heroes of
Telemark” to the town’s leading role in the second industrial revolution driven by
hydropower, this is a location that commands respect.

Every winter, the town remains in the shadow of the mountains for five
months and no sunlight reaches to the valley floor. So in 2013, a series
of large mirrors were built high up on the mountainside to reflect the
sunshine down to the town square. Here, the people believe that nothing
is impossible, we believer there must be something in the water.
