The Water

The cold, clean

waters of Telemark

The groundwater used at Rjukan originates in Telemark’s
high-altitude mountain lakes. It is naturally filtered through
thick moraines, which is optimal in terms of achieving the
best fish taste.

Focus areas

Hima Seafood has identified and secured a license to obtain water from a huge groundwater reservoir in Vestfjorddalen, just below where the facility will be built in the first quarter of 2021.

The water temperature rarely exceeds 20 degrees Celsius; ensuring
the Hima Trout can grow strong and healthy in the cold, clean water.

There is a stable and abundant water supply. There is no agriculture
near the facility in Rjukan or other ground-based activities that will
affect the high quality water source.

Water fit for the world´s finest trout

Rjukan is a unique location with perpetual access to ‘unlimited’ pristine, alpine water. The cold water temperature is important for the welfare of the trout, and year round access to production-grade water limits the need for expensive purification processes.

This in turn not only reduces the facility’s carbon footprint, it also reduces any detrimental impact on the local ecosystem. And most importantly, the pristine, naturally filtered water also helps to ensure a premium quality product.

At Rjukan, the Hima Trout grows faster, leaner and stronger.
This is a trout you can trust.
